When did the Great Fire of Rome occur ?

-The Great Fire of Rome took place on 19 July 64 AD.

According to one account, the fire was truly devastating and only 4 of Rome's 14 districts escaping major damage; 3 districts were completely destroyed, while another 7 were seriously damaged.



It is now part of urban legends that Nero (who was Emperor at the time) actually started the fire, however there is little proof of it; in fact, according to reliable sources, Nero was in Antium at the time. Once he become aware of the news, Nero immediately returned to Rome and organized a highly effective and timely relief effort, paid for from his private funds. But the one most people mean was in 64 AD. Nero blamed it on the Christians and used it as a justification to persecute them, but rumors were that Nero himself did it as a form of 'urban renewal', to build a new city in his own image.
