What happened to British Nationals living in Germany at the time of WWII?

-I thought to myself the other day, were English people (or other foreign nationals for that matter) living in Germany during World War II arrested or put in concetration camps, or left alone?; and were German people living in England at the time of the war investigated/arrested or were they even allowed to fight against their own country!?Depends. Brits living in Germany were in roughly three catagories. Tourist and Commercial, Anti-Nazis, and a few who were very pro-Hitler. The few were allowed to remain free and even help the German War Effort. The rest were interred.

Britain interred all foreign nationals belong to the Axis countries. Most Brits in Germany at the outbreak of war were interned in camps for the duration. This also happened to the 'English' living in the Channel Isles which were occupied by the Germans. They were transported to Germany and held there in camps for the duration.

Nasty Nazis intern Britons from the Channel Isles

As regards British citizens interned by the Nazis, in September 1942 the Germans sent 2,000 British-born civilians from the Channel Islands to internment camps in Germany. Another 200 were deported in January 1943, as a reprisal for a British commando raid.
