-Lucille LeSueur
Bernard Schwartz
Archibald LeachYes, those were the stage names of Joan Crawford, Tony Curtis and Cary Grant, however, there is more to the story...
During the eighth season of the sitcom "Cheers", this question arose during an episode entitled, "What Is...Cliff Clavin?"
Know-it-all Cliff manages to land a spot on a special episode of "Jeopardy" and starts out very well until (well, read on)...
Although there is more to the story of that episode, here is a brief excerpt from wikipedia that provides the context in which this question arose:
"...After a presumably successful first round (given the board) and Cliff's high score by the time Final Jeopardy comes around, Cliff gains some confidence and begins acting cocky. Entering Final Jeopardy, Cliff has amassed $22,000, with his closest competitor having only $3,300. However, under a category of "MOVIES", Cliff foolishly wagers his entire $22,000 and is stumped by the clue of "Archibald Leach, Bernard Schwartz and Lucille LeSueur". Cliff's response of "Who are three people who've never been in my kitchen?"[3] is deemed humorous, but incorrect. (The correct response was "What were the real names of Cary Grant, Tony Curtis and Joan Crawford?")[3] Cliff loses all of his money and a contestant with only a $400 total is crowned Jeopardy! champion, as Cliff launches into an angry tirade, protesting that his response should be accepted..."
Please feel free to check the source for more details. They are all famous actors:
Lucille LeSueur became Lucille Ball
Bernard Schwartz = Tony Curtis
Archibald Leach is Cary Grant (He once said that he wished he WAS Cary Grant)
Joan Crawford, Tony Curtis, and Cary Grant. Hmm, what could those three possibly have in common?
the common part was that they were illegitimate
They all have funny last names.
