Why did the Germans have spikes on their WWI helmets?

-Didn't it give away their positions?It was COMPLETELY ornamental, there was no functionality to the spike at all.



whaleit could be used as a weapon in hand to hand combat. It was also kept traditional from years before. Looking proper and organized was still in war. only after WWI did it stop being used. The better your army looked the better they were. The Germans had fantastic uniforms throughout each Reich and it was kept that way even through WWII.
Close combat headbutts. Got to think 1 step ahead of your opponent. If you got into a bare hand fight with the enemy you still had a weapon if you had you helmet.
The spike is just ornamental.
