What was the main motivation for the Khmer Rouge in the Killing Fields?

-like what was their main objective, what did they hope to achieve?Pol Pot (and his cronie's) idea was a bit similar to that of Mao in China - to go back to Year Zero and return the country to an agriculatural economy to erase the ruling elite and effectively dum down the entire country. Education was banned and cities like Phnom Penn were emptied and the population forced to work in the fields. All culture was effectively outlawed - it is rather amiracle that Ankor Wat survived (when you see what happened in the Bim Yan Valley in Afghanstan) It was an extreme form of Communism and was supposed to level everyone to the status of working class (although the traditional workers in factories suffered as industry was shut down) - and the rubber plantation workers were mostly Vietnamese anyway. It was deeply flawed and applalling abuse of human rights.
