-Jackson felt that nullification was an act of treason. Congress gave President Jackson the authority to use force to stop any involved in the nullification process in South Carolina. When South Carolina still attempted to break away from the Union he issued a proclamation to the nullifies in December 1832. Finally, in early 1833, he sent a Force Bill to congress to authorise the use of force to prevent S.C. from acting. In the end it didn't come to that as Henry Clay helped to save the day by negotiating The Compromise Tariff of 1833 and thus averting potential crisis.
