-I wanted to write a short story on a prostitute who befriends a soldier based in an English rural village, but I also want to be as realistic and historically accurate as possible. Problem is I can't seem to find any information on this. Were there brothels in small, tight knit English communities? There were brothels in towns, London for instance had a great many. But I think you would be unlikely to find one in a small rural community. There might be one or two women who would be available for sex on a commercial basis on the quiet, or who were suspected of being so anyway, but it would be something that would be kept fairly quiet.
The person above who talks about houses in English villages being very expensive is thinking of nowadays. it is true that most English villages in these days probably have a majority of residents who are quite well off, but this would not have been the case in the 1940s. In the 1940s, there would have been many ordinary people living in villages, in small cottages, and they might well be on quite low incomes. It is certainly not impossible that a woman trying to supplement her income might accept money for having sex, if there were men in the village willing to pay (and there usually are men like that around).
Lol you are joking, right? I live in a typical British village...it has 2 shops and a barber,it is full of rich upper class and jewish people,no brothels. The houses in the typical British village are very expensive,I live in a 3 bedroom house, average size and it is worth 拢600,000 or $800,000.Good luck finding a curb crawler here... High class escorts ordered from a city example could be SLIGHTLY more realistic.
If you're lucky, a village will have a church, a pub and maybe a shop. No brothels!
